STOP THE MENOMONIE DATA CENTER

Informing Dunn County, WI

On June 18th, 2025, Balloonist LLC. and six land owners filed a petition for direct annexation by unanimous approval for the six land owners located along County Hwy B - between 650th Avenue and 690th Avenue in the Town of Red Cedar.

This was approved by the Menomonie City Council on August 4th, 2025.

What is a data center?

A data center is a facility that houses servers and networking equipment to store and process data.

Large data centers can consume as much electricity as a medium sized town and often use tens of thousands of gallons of water per day for cooling.

The proposed site in Menomonie, WI, is estimated to use 75,000 gallons of water per day. How much water will actually be used is unknown at this time, nor is there any way to monitor water usage.

Environmental concerns are noise pollution, light pollution, and wastewater management.

This specific project is estimated up to 1,000 workers during the initial construction phase, 50-75 permanent high paying jobs (many of which are often remote), and then 200-300 contract employees for things like security, landscaping, janitorial etc.
